Starbucks in Vienna, Austria.

On our last Wednesday of our trip we left early in the morning to take a trip to Vienna, Austria. We left Andrew in my parents care and got going at 5am to the train station. Here is Drew in the train station just as the sun was coming up.

This is still in Budapest. It is the railway station from across the street. (Budapest has four railway stations and they are all this big!)

We somehow got to the center of the Old town of Vienna. We had to figure out where to get subway tickets and where to get on the subway. The people of Vienna were very nice and helped us out with directions because we looked so lost!!! It was fun and adventurous! We did not understand a word of German! Drew is standing in front of one of the oldest churches in Austria.

The buildings around were equally old in the square.

A florist shop on one of the main walk ways off the square.

Oh yeah, we found the Starbucks and had to get a drink! After all, we had not had Starbucks for a couple of weeks now!!! Rough life! Way too long to go without it! Budapest does not have a Starbucks yet, but Vienna had a couple of them around the city!

Drew is getting happier by the minute!!!

Old and new meet on the streets of Vienna.

In front of the Opera House. We did not have time to attend the concert that night but one day for sure we will!!!!

It was interesting to watch this violin player on the square! Every time somebody dropped a coin he started to play on the violin for about a minute and then stop again. When somebody else dropped another coin he would start playing again! Very neat idea!!!!

We ate lunch at one of the local favorite restaurants. It was a hole in the wall but the food was excellent!!! Drew had the famous schnitzel (it is a flat piece of pork meat and it is breaded and fried) with potato salad and bread. I had the fried chicken which looked just like the schnitzel! It was great food and what came after the lunch was even better!!!!

Just before we had to catch our train back to Budapest we got on the giant Ferris wheel. It was a very old tradition for Austrians to ride the giant wheel.

We had some great views of the old and the new city of Vienna. Behind Drew there is a panoramic picture of Vienna and each building had its name on the picture so you would know what you were looking at!

Right next to the big Ferris wheel there was an amusement park with a roller coaster ride.

Our train ride back was nice and relaxing.

The train did not even stop at the border so we never could figure out when we crossed into Hungary! The only giveaway was the train station that we could read and know if it was German or Hungarian. The customs was all taken care on the train and the guards came around to stamp the passports while the train was running.

We saw a lot of these windmills all over the country side. Europeans are very into saving the planet and going green!!! We were wondering how many people here in the US would let these windmills be built on their land!?!?

The restaurant was great and the after dinner menu was to die for. The Ferris wheel was incredibly large. We were way above the roller coaster and there were these large "hi-rise" cranes on several construction sites nearby...we were higher than them as well. The Ferris wheel cabin we were in would start rocking when too many people went to one side. A bit of a disconcerting feeling when one is that high if I don't say so myself.
